- 1963-1977 – Tom Yamashita at family farm in Central Valley CA
- 1987 – Tom and wife Kathleen establish privately owned SunBurst Research and Development to trouble shoot and develop more effective solutions and systems for agriculture
- 1991 – SunBurst moves its operations to a 20 acre research farm in Pocatello, Idaho, where many projects were undertaken including bioremediation of contaminated soils
- 1988-1992 – Sunburst developed several environmentally safe technologies and products including:
- Foliar nutrients and method for treating plants to supplement photosynthesis, balanced mineral nutrition, mite and small insect control, synergize with chemicals to reduce pesticide rates
- Soil conditioner for treating soil-borne pathogens, accelerate decomposition of stubbles/plant tissues, improve physico-chemical soil properties and buffers for high salt conditions
- Pollen enhancer methods for collecting pollen of high viability and product for enhancing the effect of pollination
- Methods and product for frost damage and protection, seed treatment and disrupting insect host finding ability
- 1993 – returns to Central Valley, accepting faculty position at CSUF and continues efforts with SunBurst
- 1993-2019 – Sunburst establishes customer base with more than 250 farming business units including private farms growing nuts, fruits, grape vines and vegetables, seed companies, chemical companies and post harvest in and around Central Valley, and various states
- 2020 – SunBurst acquired by Dr. Srini Krishnamoorthy, renamed SunBurst Agri Biotech Solutions LLC
- Currently bringing back seed health testing services and new ecofriendly organic health supplements to address pests and pathogens and promote organic agriculture.
